I am Dr. Hilary Kubai, an Orthopaedic Surgeon practicing in Kenya, and the genesis of Synapsis lies in a profound professional frustration: the critical scarcity of accessible medical data in our region. Our reliance on the older paradigm of pen-and-paper record-keeping and physical file systems—though tested—creates a substantial stumbling block to efficient data retrieval, hindering progress.
My fundamental belief is that Synapsis serves as the vital conduit to usher our healthcare system into the digital age. While we are committed to enhancing clinical workflow and electronic record-keeping, a primary goal is the seamless facilitation of quick and easy data access.
It is widely acknowledged that the African continent struggles significantly with producing medical research at scale, an issue directly linked to this difficulty in accessing reliable, aggregate patient data. I am firmly convinced that by providing an efficient, standardized platform for data management and retrieval, Synapsis will drastically change this landscape. This capability will empower our clinicians and researchers, fostering a robust environment for medical discovery and evidence-based practice across the continent.
Resolving Systemic Clinical Inefficiencies
As a medical doctor and technologist, I founded Synapsis driven by a clear mandate: to resolve the systemic inefficiencies that plague modern clinical workflows. Throughout my years in practice, I observed that fragmented processes, excessive administrative burdens, and outdated tools consistently undermined both patient outcomes and clinician professional satisfaction. Synapsis was established as the solution to this lived reality.
My objective is to provide a transformative platform that streamlines operations, optimizes communication, and drastically reduces inefficiencies. This allows our clinicians to re-allocate their primary focus to high-quality patient care. I hold the conviction that technology must be an empowering force in healthcare—it should simplify complex procedures and strengthen the operational capacity of care providers, not complicate it.
My leadership methodology is rooted in the philosophy of incremental, deliberate progress, a mindset reinforced by the continuous refinement required in both medicine and my personal dedication to amateur running. Furthermore, Synapsis is a product of cross-disciplinary thought, drawing influence from other tools and methodologies, ensuring we build tools where medicine, technology, and human-centered design converge effectively.
